Hey, Pearls! On this episode, Jaimie and Porsha root for everybody black. Jaimie kicks off the show with a reflection from Dr. Brittany Cooper's recent book, Eloquent Rage. Then, Porsha shares about a Mother's Day outing with her mom to see the Alvin Ailey dancers in New York City. After those opening segments, the Pearls remember the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. James Hal Cone, the Father of Black Liberation Theology. The Pearls dedicate the bulk of the episode to the First Annual Just 2 Pearls Black Excellence Awards. Members of the African diaspora living in the United States did too many pearly things to name this year, but Porsha and Jaimie managed to choose eight stand-outs to give "Black Excellence Awards." Hey, Pearls! Join us as we begin a three-part series called "Adventures in Blackness." The series honors the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and Black History Month. To kick things off, Jaimie and Porsha share a conversation with Devon J. Crawford a gifted young scholar and preacher who is currently a student at the University of Chicago Divinity School. They chat with Devon about Dr. King's legacy, the untold stories of the women at LGBT+ folks who shared Dr. King's dream, and the contemporary movement for black lives. 

And yes, it is a new year, but we are the same pearls. Jaimie shares a reflection by Saidiya Hartman, Porsha gives us the inside scoop on her Prophetic Preaching conference in Sarasota, Florida, and Jaimie laments the pettiness of holiday travel.
